The Lore
Two historic temples bless the holy hill that this town is named after. Mangalagiri is one of only eight holy places in India where Lord Vishnu is believed to have appeared. The town is known for its calm atmosphere, beautiful hills, and deep spiritual roots.
Long ago, a demon named Namuchi hid in these hills to escape Lord Narasimha. The Lord found him, sealed the cave, and stayed there with his mouth open in anger. To calm him, people started offering holy drinks as tribute, a tradition that continues even today.

The Land
(on the hill)
Here, there’s no idol. A rock wall with a mouth-like opening is worshipped as the Lord. Devotees pour Panaka (or Panakam), a sweet drink, into it. Amazingly, only half the drink comes back while the rest is believed to be “drunk” by the Lord. You can even hear a telltale gulping sound during the offering.

(at the foot of the hill)
This temple is where Goddess Lakshmi is believed to have meditated. It follows ancient temple rituals and holds special ceremonies during festivals like Ugadi and Vaikunta Ekadashi.

The Loom
Mangalagiri is also famous for its handloom cotton and silk fabrics. Local weavers create beautiful sarees and clothes known for their bright borders and soft textures. These are made using traditional methods passed down through generations.
You can shop local or visit a weaver to see the craft in action.
